The Top Three Causes For Hair Loss In Women

from: Nourman Med

Many people are surprised to find that men are not the only ones to suffer from hair loss. Hair loss in women is more common than you think, but because there is a stigma attached to a woman losing her hair, it is not something you often hear about. Hair loss in women occurs for several reasons including, issues with hormones, stress, and medication.

Hair Loss In Women Due To Hormones

Hormones control so many things in a woman's body. Hormones control your monthly cycle, your insulin, and even your temperature. When the hormones in a woman' s body are out of sync, hair loss in women can occur.

When estrogen and testosterone get out of balance, it can cause a women's hair to thin or start falling out. That is why women that are going through menopause, pregnancy, post pregnancy, or even puberty often find quite a bit of hair in their shower drains. If you are losing your hair due to an upset in the balance of your hormones, a visit to the doctor can clear things up. Hormone replacement therapy often helps women that are going through menopause to see an immediate difference in the thickness of their hair.

Obviously if you are pregnant, you can't take hormones or medication to regulate your hormones, but you can comfort yourself in the fact that a few months after you deliver you system should be back to normal and as a result, you hair will return to normal as well.

Teens that find puberty wreaks havoc with their hair often find that going on a low dose birth control pill helps their body to regulate the production and use of hormones. This option should always be discussed with a doctor who will help a teen decide if taking birth control is the right choice.

Hair Loss In Women Due To Stress

Stress is a leading cause of hair loss in women. If you think that your hair loss is due to stress, you need to figure out a way to cut stress from your life. Find someone you can talk to about the things in your life that are stressful. Many women find that exercise is an excellent way for them to blow off steam instead of internalizing the stress of their everyday lives. You might even consider making lifestyle changes such as moving or finding a new job, if you think that would help alleviate stress.

Hair Loss In Women Due To Medication

If you notice that your thinning hair coincides with starting a new medication talk to your doctor immediately. It is very possible that there is a different medication that can be prescribed for your condition.
