A Guide to Lipitor and Hair Loss

from:

There are many different prescription drugs on the market today that can cause hair loss, one in particular being Lipitor. Lipitor is a form of cholesterol lowering medication, one that works by blocking the production of cholesterol. It reduces low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, which is also known as the 'bad cholesterol'.

Lipitor is a very important drug because a lot of people have a high content of LDL cholesterol in their body, and this drug helps to lower it for them when they have tried and exhausted all other options. Lowering your cholesterol can help to prevent heart disease and hardening of the arteries as well as guard you against a variety of other conditions and complications of the heart.

Lipitor and Hair Loss

As with any other prescription drug however, there are certain side effects that are associated with Lipitor, and this includes: mild stomach pain, gas, bloating, upset stomach, heartburn, nausea, constipation, stuffy nose, itching, rash, and muscle pain.

Hair loss is the most commonly reported side effect of Lipitor, and the relationship between Lipitor and hair loss is actually the most frightening as well, because not only can Lipitor and hair loss be temporary, but it can actually be long-term. A lot of people who experienced hair loss and stopped taking the drug never ended up getting all of their hair back afterwards.

This is of course frightening to both male and female patients alike, but the positive offerings of Lipitor are often so urgent that there is really no argument to be made, and certain people have to take the drug for the safety of their health.

There is no surefire way to avoid Lipitor and hair loss symptoms, however in order to try and prevent Lipitor and hair loss symptoms as best as possible, there are a few things that you can do. For one, try not shampooing your hair as often, leave it to maybe once or twice a week at the very most, as this will keep less hair from falling out on a regular basis.

You should also make sure to use conditioning products regularly, and try not to chemically damage your hair in any way, and this includes blow drying, straightening, and chemical dying. Just try to take as best care of your hair as possible in general, and you will be less likely to suffer from the hair loss side effects. If you do end up losing some hair, there are options available to you, including wigs, hairpieces, and even surgery if you are that serious about it and your hair loss is bothering you that much.
