Finding a Treatment for Drug Induced Hair Loss

from:

Many people take prescription medications for their problems these days, and although there are certainly positive side effects as a result, there are also often problems that are caused. Drug induced hair loss is a very common side effects that occurs from the taking of certain prescription drugs, and although there is no surefire way to avoid this, there are certain things that you can do in order to try and prevent it from happening to you.

Be Informed

The first and most important thing is to actually inform and educate yourself, namely about the most common prescription drugs and which of those have hair loss listed as a common side effect. Certain drugs that are used to treat arthritis, depression, heart problems, and high blood pressure, have all been shown to cause patients to develop hair loss.

Before you start yourself on any type of drug, even if your doctor has already prescribed it, you want to make sure that you know everything you can about it, and that if you are already taking other medication that your doctor is aware of this and has determined that there will be no problems as a result of combining them.

Treatment for Drug Induced Hair Loss

If you already have experienced hair loss as a side effect, then you should know that there is certain treatment for drug induced hair loss options that you have. Basically the most important consideration to make when deciding on a type of treatment for drug induced hair loss is to determine how much your hair loss really bothers you, and thus how great of an extent you are willing to go.

Treatment for drug induced hair loss can include anything from grooming techniques to wearing wigs and hairpieces. This is only for the duration of time that you are still on the medication however, because typically once you get off of it your hair will grow back. In the meantime however, wearing hairpieces is often the best and less noticeable idea, although surgery is also an option.

Using surgery as a treatment for drug induced hair loss should really only be done once you have tried and exhausted all other methods and if you know that you are going to be continuing to take the medication for an extended period of time. After all if you are going to be getting off the drugs in a few weeks, there is really no point of going to the extent of surgery.

Any treatment that you are interested in you should always make sure to discuss it with your doctor first just to be sure that you are not putting yourself at any risk.
