The Common Myths about Hair Loss
from: Nourman MedNo matter how much societies advance, there will never be a shortage of myths that surround common, normal maladies such as acne, weight gain and hair loss. The reason for this is simple: people do not double check the facts when it comes to listening to flippant explanations for things that can be highly complex. Then again, the explanation for a condition can be simple as well.
The key to these simple or complex answers is that they are accurate. If they are not accurate then what is their value, then what is the value that can they provide. In the issue of hair loss, it is unfortunate that some may prescribe to inaccurate information and myths when there are a variety of legitimate treatments that can be helpful. In order to shed a little light on the subject, some of the more common myths will be mentioned and exposed.
Myths Abound
Here is a common hair loss myth that is absurd on a number of levels: wearing a hat excessively will lead to hair loss because it will cut off oxygen to the scalp that the hair follicles need. This is so silly that it defies belief that some will prescribe to it. First, a hat does not create a vacuum where oxygen can not reach the hair and secondly, if you shaved a person's head and poured varnish on the scalp on a daily basis hair would grow. In short, wearing a hat does not cause hair loss!
Neither does overly brushing your hair nor will wearing certain hair styles cause hair loss. These are common myths that have circulated along with a host of other myths that are pulled out of the air to explain that which is unexplainable to one who neither knows nor understands the concept of genetics. Ultimately, hair loss is a genetic issue and not the result of common, everyday actions that yields pattern baldness.
Sources of Info
When it comes to separating fact from fiction, it is important to seek a credible source as the root of the information. As such, it is wise to seek sources that include a background in biology or medicine as these sources base their info on proven research and information as opposed to reasoning that bases its origin in 15th mythology. Sadly, many people do not realize that the origins derive from ancient mythology so the myths perpetuate to the point they remain modern as opposed to fading away.
